What the Law Says

DENVER’S ENERGY BENCHMARKING ORDINANCE

Denver’s Energize Denver Ordinance aims to reduce carbon emissions by requiring large building owners to track and report their annual energy usage. This initiative supports the city’s broader goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040.

Buildings in Denver are a major source of emissions, contributing to more than 50% of the city’s overall GHG output. To help meet climate targets, the city is focusing on improving energy efficiency in commercial and multifamily properties.

Who Must Comply?

If you own a commercial or multifamily building 25,000 square feet or larger within Denver city or county, you are required to comply with the benchmarking ordinance.
