What is an Energy Audit?

The Energy Audit Process

the cotocon group
  • Walk-Through Analysis: Energy Auditor Inspection and Interview
  • The auditor will conduct tests, take measurements, interview owners and occupants, and identify energy-saving opportunities, typically completing the process in two to four hours.
  • Energy Survey and Analysis: Report and Implementation
  • After the initial appointment, the auditor will describe problematic energy areas and provide recommendations for energy systems, considering occupant behaviors.
    Energy Audit: Optimizing Efficiency
An energy audit analyzes a building’s energy use to reduce consumption without compromising output, leading to cost savings and a smaller carbon footprint.
Energy Audit: Balancing Efficiency and Comfort
An energy audit prioritizes cost-effective energy savings while ensuring safety, health, and human comfort are maintained.
    Standardizing Energy Audits
ANSI/ASHRAE/ACCA Standard 211-2018 ensures energy audits are consistent, accurate, and high-quality, outlining best practices for survey and analysis in commercial buildings.

In New York City, laws like the Local Law 87, require buildings larger than 50,000 sq. ft. to have an energy audit once every 10 years. The Local Law 87 requires a licensed Professional Engineer to oversee the work and The Cotocon Group handles these regularly. Similarly, Local Law 84 states that as of May 1, 2011 all buildings 50,000 square feet and larger must be ENERGY STAR Benchmarked and report their building’s energy & water use. These laws are the results of New York City’s PlaNYC, which aims to reduce wasted energy in buildings. Which are the greatest source of pollution in NYC.

The Cotocon Group can manage Local Law 84 requirements and start saving you money on building operations, making your building more competitive. We have a group of experienced professionals qualified to carry out these tasks.
