Local Law 95

What is Local Law 95?

Local Law 95 is an amendment to Local Law 33 which requires buildings over 25,000 sq. ft. to post an energy efficiency grade in a public, visible location. These grades are based on the annual energy benchmarking requirements set out in Local Laws 84 and 133.

Local Law 95: Display your grade.

Based on the results of energy energy benchmarking in accordance with Local Laws 84 and 133, buildings are assigned a score. The grades apply to scores as follows:
  • A: 85 and above
  • B: 70-85
  • C: 55-70
  • D: less thn 55
  • F: buildings that fail to submit benchmarking information.
  • N: buildings exempt from the requirements of these local laws.
  • Who needs to comply:
    New York City Buildings over 25,000 sq. ft.
    Deadline:
    Grades are available to download by October 1st every year and need to be posted at an entrance by October 31st.
    Fines:
    Failure to post the energy efficiency grade at the building entrance by October 31st each year results in a $1,250 fine.
